What is NCS?

PrintNCS stands for National Citizens Service. NCS is an opportunity open to all 15-17 year olds across the UK. It is a 4 week program that involves 2 residentials and a community development project. This year (2016) I myself will be taking part on this adventure and sharing my thoughts, views and advice to you all.

In more detail, NCS is an organisation that works with young people. It is a government funded scheme with the government paying £1400 for each individual place. Those who participate are required to only pay a small sum of £50 towards this. Therefore it is an amazing opportunity for young people to experience the outdoors, boost their confidence and gain valuable life skills (or so they say).

The first week involves an outdoor residential, where we will be staying in tents for 5 days and 4 nights. During our time, we will participate in many outdoor activities like sailing, climbing and hiking.

The second week involves another 5 day residential, but this time it’s less outdoorsy! Instead we will be staying in university style accommodation, where we will learn basic life skills and develop our talents further.

The third and fourth weeks are spent doing a social development project (basically community service!) Where we will volunteer in the local community and try to improve other peoples lives.
